Even when I was hitting good returns, he was changing the direction of the ball very quickly and coming to the net. He had good hands, solid volleys and made it toough. Fake Wholesale Shoes. Murray practiced on the arenas new court two days ago when it was cloudy and cool. It was a different story on Monday under sunny skies and warmer conditions. The court was livelier, Murray said. The court isnt way faster, but obviously when you play in quicker conditions, the ball travels through the air quicker. Also maybe down to the way he was playing as well ... hitting the ball very flat and coming to the net a lot.Murray, who next plays big-serving Australian Marinko Matosevic, has a tough draw that could involve a quarterfinal match against Roger Federer.I need to continue serving well, Murray said of Matosevic. When you play against a big guy who likes to go for his shots, if you can keep good weight and depth ... that can frustrate them. Ill try and use some variety to throw his timing off a little bit.Beyond Matosevic, hes not looking too far ahead. The year I won Wimbledon everyone was saying it was the hardest draw, and then a couple guys get knocked out, Murray said. A lot can change in a couple of days in sport. ' ' '

With England internationals, stars of the World T20 and a whole host of other big-name players on show, there are any number of reasons you might choose to support a specific side.So whether youre backing the boys from back home, embrace an underdog story or even if youre just a fan of The Hoff, weve got you covered... MUMBAI INDIANSYou should support them because… Jos Buttler is playingThe England wicketkeeper has been in fine form for England over the winter and after a starring role in Eoin Morgans sides run to the World T20 final, he will now head to Mumbai. I wanted to hit one in there for a long time

Сообщение wh3171 » 30 ноя 2019, 11:20

Each week, well take a look at some top performers from the CFL, with an eye to looking ahead to some matchups that could be favourable for TSN Fantasy Football, CFL Edition, presented by Joseph Abboud. Jack Coleman Jersey Signed . Here are some of the best from Week Two and players to watch for Week Three: TOP PERFORMERS Ricky Ray, QB, Toronto - After a brilliant performance (29-for-37, 407 YDS, 3 TD) against Saskatchewan, Ray leads all quarterbacks in passing yards (690) and touchdowns (five) through the first couple games. In a passing league, Ray is the cream of the crop right now. Chad Owens, WR, Toronto - Someone has to be on the receiving end for Ray and, against the Roughriders, it was Owens (11 REC, 159 YDS, 1 TD vs. Saskatchewan). Hes the leagues top receiver, with 237 yards, through two games; 93 yards more than second-place Adarius Bowman of Edmonton. Nic Grigsby, RB, Winnipeg - Followed up his stellar Week One performance with a big game (112 YDS, 16 touches, 3 TD) against Ottawa. Through two weeks, Grigsby has 251 yards from scrimmage as part of an exciting Blue Bombers attack. PLAYERS TO WATCH IN WEEK THREE Bo Levi Mitchell, QB, Calgary - After a decisive Week One win, during which Mitchell passed for 313 yards and a couple of touchdowns, the Stampeders got the week off last week. With health questions surrounding star runner Jon Cornish, the Stamps may need Mitchell to throw lots to stay competitive in Toronto. Going up against an Argonauts defence that has allowed an average of 329 passing yards through the first couple games, enough that they traded for Dwight Anderson to shore up the secondary, ought to present a favourable matchup for Mitchell too. Nick Moore, WR, Winnipeg - A big free agent signing in the offseason, Moore has been a valuable target for QB Drew Willy and if Willy is going to continue airing it out -- he and Ricky Ray are the only quarterbacks with more than 600 yards passing -- Moore is a good play as a complementary threat behind team-leading receiver Aaron Kelly. Going into Montreal isnt necessarily easy pickings, but might as well ride the Bombers, at least until they slow down. Chevon Walker, RB, Ottawa - The Jamaican-born runner had a strong debut for the Redblacks (99 YDs, 17 touches, 2 TD at Winnipeg) and has a decent track record from his time in Hamilton, including 1285 yards from scrimmage with nine touchdowns on 189 touches. Now, hes the primary backfield threat for Ottawa. Scott Cullen can be reached at Scott.Cullen@bellmedia.ca and followed on Twitter at http://twitter.com/tsnscottcullen. For more, check out TSN Fantasy on Facebook. Jerry Grote Jersey Signed . In this space, I will be writing new and unique pieces about the team that you wont be able to find anywhere else. So naturally, in an attempt to come up with a fresh topic about the Ottawa Senators, I am going to start with a piece about their goaltending. Mark Price Jersey Signed .com) - On the bright side, either the Minnesota Wild or Buffalo Sabres will end their losing streak on Thursday night. https://www.cheapnbajerseysjustwholesale.com/bob-riley-jersey-signed/ . "No difference at all," chirped U.S. roommate and linemate James van Riemsdyk. "Its still the same cranky Phil.SAN FRANCISCO -- Brandon Crawfords first splash hit came at a most opportune time. Crawford led off the 10th inning with a game-ending drive into McCovey Cove to give the San Francisco Giants a 5-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. "It feels good," he said. "I wanted to hit one in there for a long time. Im glad I finally got to." Pablo Sandoval also homered and Angel Pagan drove in two runs for the Giants, who bounced back from a 1-0 loss on Saturday to take two of three in the series. Crawford turned on the second pitch thrown by Rex Brothers (1-1) and drove it into the water on the fly for his first career walkoff homer and first splash homer. "He smoked that one," manager Bruce Bochy said. "I asked him if he ever hit one further." The homer also helped Crawford show Bochy that he deserves more at-bats against left-handed pitchers. Bochy said earlier this season that Crawford might sit against certain lefties after hitting just .199 off them last season. But he is 7 for 14 so far this year against lefties with no bigger hit than the one against Brothers. "Thats what you want these guys to do is take anything that you may throw at them that may not have them in the game as a challenge," Bochy said. "To his credit, hes done that." Sergio Romo (1-0) pitched a scoreless 10th for the win. Wilin Rosario and Justin Morneau hit solo homers for the Rockies, who have lost 15 of their last 18 games in San Francisco and have not won a series here since 2010. But the Rockies got bad news after the game when they learned lefty Brett Anderson broke the index finger on his throwing hand Saturday and is expected to miss four to six weeks. "We have to play the hand were dealt with here," manager Walt Weiss said. "His arm is great and so is everything else. Its better than having arm trouble." The Giants nearly won it in the ninth, when Gregor Blanco hit a drive off the wall in right field with two outs and nobody on. Trey Johnson Jersey Signed. When Michael Cuddyer misplayed the carom off the wall, Blanco tried to score on the play but was thrown out on a relay from second baseman D.J. LeMahieu to Rosario. The play was eerily similar to one last year when Pagan shocked the Rockies with a game-ending, two-run, inside-the-park homer in the 10th inning of a 6-5 win May 25. "I saw it develop and thought this cant happen to you two years in a row," Weiss said. "But Cuddy kept his cool, gave D.J. a good throw and then D.J. then made good throw to home." Tim Hudson appeared to be cruising to this third straight win to open his San Francisco career, taking a 4-2 lead into the eighth inning having thrown only 77 pitches. But then Nolan Arenado and LeMahieu opened with doubles to cut the Giants lead to 4-3. Pinch-hitter Drew Stubbs tied it with a one-out single off Javier Lopez. "I would have been sick if we had lost this game because I felt like I had a pretty good game and then in the eighth inning we were tied up," Hudson said. Hudson allowed four runs and five hits in 7 1-3 innings. He hasnt walked a batter in 23 innings, setting a San Francisco record for most consecutive innings without a walk to open the season. The Giants had given Hudson the lead when they broke a 17-inning scoreless streak by scoring three runs in the fifth inning against Tyler Chatwood with a sacrifice fly by Crawford and two-run single from Pagan. Sandoval added a leadoff homer in the sixth. NOTES: Atlee Hammaker opened the 1983 season with 21 straight innings without a walk for the Giants. ... The Giants open a three-game home series Tuesday against the Dodgers with Tim Lincecum (0-1) facing Josh Beckett (0-0). ... The Rockies open a four-game series in San Diego on Monday with Jordan Lyles (2-0) taking on Eric Stults (0-2). ' ' '

the Red Wings ripped off five straight goals

Сообщение wh3171 » 30 ноя 2019, 11:22

CALGARY -- For a guy that has spent the majority of the season split between the ECHL and AHL, Winnipeg goaltender Michael Hutchinson sure looked like an NHL goaltender on Friday night. Cheap Nike Shoes Free Shipping . Paul Postma scored the game-winning goal and Hutchinson made 35 saves, including 18 in a perfect third period, as the Jets hung on for a 5-3 win over the Calgary Flames. "Especially with where I started at the start of the year, I didnt think it would be possible to be in the NHL," said Hutchinson, who played Winnipegs final three games compiling a 2-1-0 record, 1.64 goals-against average and .943 save percentage. Postma broke a 3-3 tie at 9:16 of the third, ripping a slapshot past Karri Ramo from the blue-line. "There was a lot of traffic in front of the net and I just wanted to get it through. I took a shot, kept it low and it found a way into the back of the net," said Postma. It then fell upon Hutchinson to preserve the lead as the Flames feverishly buzzed around the Jets end, outshooting the visitors 14-1 before Blake Wheeler put the game away with an empty net goal. "I definitely had a lot of work in the third period but at the same time, our guys played hard in front and blocked a lot of shots," said the 24-year-old. "When your guys are working that hard in front of you, it gives you that added incentive to bear down and make those saves." One of Hutchinsons biggest stops came with four minutes left when he threw out his glove to stab a shot from Kenny Agostino, who had been sent in alone. "Hutch played so well for us these last three games. Hes got a bright future ahead of him and were looking forward to playing with him," Postma said. Michael Frolik, Evander Kane and Carl Klingberg also scored for Winnipeg (37-35-10). It was the final game of the season for the Jets. Going back to its days in Atlanta, the franchise has missed the playoffs the past seven years. Jiri Hudler, Sean Monahan and Kris Russell scored for Calgary (35-39-7), which had its four-game winning streak snapped. "We didnt get the start that we wanted but by the middle of the second period after those two power-play goals, it seemed like the momentum shifted and we had a great third period," said Flames coach Bob Hartley. "We missed a few chances, we hit some posts. The boys were on a mission, they wanted that win for the fans but unfortunately we couldnt get it done." It was Calgarys final game at the Scotiabank Saddledome, where they finish up 19-19-3. After the game as the players saluted the fans with a wave of their sticks at centre ice, the appreciative crowd rose to their feet in a thundering ovation. "It was cool that everyone stayed in the building. Its been great all year. The support has been unbelievable," said Flames captain Mark Giordano. Testament to how hard Calgary has played is its 49 one-goal games (25-18-7), which ties the NHL record set by Florida in 2010-11. "Weve really tried to establish a work ethic and an identity of being one of the hardest-working teams in the league," said veteran Flames centre Matt Stajan. "Its exciting for everybody and Im glad the fans see that. But we know we have a lot of work ahead of us. No one is satisfied in here. We have to find a way to get at least 15 more points next year and get into the playoff picture." Hartley is proud of how his team has played and says the fans are too. "Its mutual respect. Its a great story between this team and the fans. We are all part of a great community and you can feel that pride," Hartley said. "Its on me to keep that pride and keep that progression going. Despite the loss tonight I am really happy how we turned our season, especially at home. Thats where success starts." Down 3-1 halfway through the second, the Flames got a great chance to get back in the game when they got a two-man advantage for 1:31. Mark Stuart put the Jets down two men when he caught Hudler in the face with a high stick. Although just 1-for-9 with a two-man advantage coming into the game, this time Calgary took full advantage when Monahan scored at 11:46 and Russell tied it 24 seconds later. Monahans 22nd goal is the most by a Flames rookie in 24 years, dating back to 1989-90 when Paul Ranheim had 26 and Sergei Makarov had 24. After Hudlers goal reduced the Jets lead to 2-1, Winnipeg restored its two-goal cushion at 8:48 when Klingberg curled out from behind the net and wrapped in his first NHL goal. The Jets scored twice in the first. Frolik on a deflection off of Flames defenceman TJ Brodie at 7:23 then Kane at 16:10 when he ripped a wrist shot into the top corner. "I never ever put a lot of stock into the last games when youre out, except if they quit on each other, if they just say Its fine," said Winnipeg coach Paul Maurice. "They didnt quit and there was nothing on the line." Ramo had 22 stops to see his record fall to 17-14-4. Notes: Rookie Jets D Jacob Trouba left the game halfway through the first period after a shot from Paul Byron hit his own stick blade and struck him in the face. He did not return... Calgary C Mike Cammalleri (virus) did not play... Maurice finishes the year 18-12-5 after taking over as Winnipegs head coach on Jan. 12... Flames signed Hobey Baker winner Johnny Gaudreau and his Boston College linemate Bill Arnold. Both will join the team for practice Saturday in Vancouver and will be in the line-up against the Canucks on Sunday. Cheap Nike Shoes From China . Phoenix got injured centre Emeka Okafor and a top-12-protected first-round draft pick in 2014 -- giving the rebuilding Suns potentially four choices in the opening round. The Red Wings have matched a season high with four victories in a row and they sit second in the Atlantic Division with 61 points. That is two ahead of the Montreal Canadians and one back of the first-place Tampa Bay Lightning. Detroit has totaled 17 goals over its current winning streak, with 11 of those coming in the past two games. The Wild come in slumping, having had a two-game win streak halted with last nights 3-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. It was Minnesotas seventh loss in nine games. Zach Parise scored in a third straight game, getting his team-leading 17th of the campaign, but he also failed to convert on a penalty shot in the second period to keep the game tied. Im always a big believer in that you have to put pucks on the net if you want to score, said Minnesota head coach Mike Yeo. Weve got the bodies to create traffic and generate secondary opportunities, and we didnt have much of that tonight. In his third start since being acquired in a trade with the Arizona Coyotes, Devan Dubnyk allowed three goals on 23 shots to take the loss for the Wild. Minnesota activated goaltender Darcy Kuemper off of injured reserve on Monday, giving it three active netminders on the roster along with Niklas Backstrom. With Backstrom struggling and Kuemper missing time with an undisclosed injury, the Wild acquired Dubnyk to solidify the position. Kuemper, though, could start tonight after missing seven straight games and has split two prior meetings with the Red Wings while posting a 2.54 goals against average and .918 save percentage. The Wild have won three of their past four versus the Red Wings, including two straight in Detroit, and begin a four-game road trip tonight that picks up in Western Canada after the All-Star break. We’ve all heard coaches argue injuries aren’t going to sink their team, that a new player will step in and step up, and that everyone else will rally around and pick up the slack. We’ve never believed them. Maybe along the line or in the receiving corps can a team suffer a couple major injuries, but at quarterback? No way. And then there’s Ohio State. The team lost presumed Heisman candidate Braxton Miller to a shoulder injury ahead of the season only to find actual Heisman candidate JT Barrett. Barrett led the Buckeyes to a perfect conference record and 11-1 overall record en route to finishing fifth in Heisman voting. It was touch and go for a while, with Ohio State getting upset by a mediocre Virginia Tech team in the second week of the season, but the Buckeyes reeled off 10 straight wins, including strong conference victories over Michigan State and Minnesota, to earn a spot in the Big 10 Championship Game. A dual threat quarterback, Barrett finished with 3,772 combined yards and 45 combined scores, the third most among all quarterbacks, but fractured his ankle in the team’s win over Michigan on rivalry weekend. Still with an outside shot at the College Football Playoff, there was concern the Buckeyes’ couldn’t catch lightning in a bottle twice and wouldn’t even emerge as top team in the Big 10. Those concerns proved needless as Ohio State crushed Wisconsin 59-0, a performance – coupled with the team’s high tv ratings – that vaulted them into the Top 4 and a CFP spot. Against the fourth best defence in the country, one-time third string quarterback Cardale Jones put up 257 yards and three touchdowns on just 17 pass attempts in the 59-point rout. While no one believes Jones is to Barrett as Barrett was to Miller earlier this season, his Big 10 Championship performance gave Buckeyes fans hope they can hang with Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. Perhaps the best matchup against the Crimson Tide is between the two men patrolling the sidelines. If Nick Saban is the best coach in college football, Urban Meyer is right on his tail at No. 2. The Sugar Bowl is the latest edition in the rivalry of the off-field friends that burned bright in the SEC before Meyer left Florida. There are college football fans that believe Meyer and Saban ushered in the era of SEC domination still currently in play. We all know what Saban has done with the Tide, winning three national championships in four yyears, but Meyer’s nearly as impressive run with the Gators superseded that. Vans Shoes Clearance Outlet. Meyer won two national championships in his six years with the Gators before leaving under suspect circumstances, and subsequently burning a lot of bridges on the way out. He has since done quite well for himself up north with the Buckeyes. He led the team to an undefeated season his first year in town, but the Buckeyes were ineligible for the postseason due to violations stemming from the sweater vest era. While Meyer and Miller, err Barrett, err Jones are the headliners for OSU heading into the Sugar Bowl, they’ve got a number of others that figure to play a part in the outcome in the New Year’s Eve semifinal. Running back Ezekiel Elliott was a Top 20 rusher, compiling 1,402 yards and 12 touchdowns, and receiver Devin Smith had 11 touchdowns, ninth most in the nation among receivers, to go with his 799 receiving yards. Ohio State’s top draft eligible prospects are on the defensive side of the ball. While they’re currently void a prospect with a first round draft grade, DT Michael Bennett is a high second round prospect at the moment and could fight his way into the Top 32 with a strong postseason. Senior cornerback Doran Grant is next up, currently sporting a mid-round grade. Grant could use a solid postseason to sneak into the third round. If Jones can continue his best Barrett impression for another week, the Buckeyes carry a Top 10 offence into the Sugar Bowl. While they’re just middle of the pack through the air, Ohio State is 11th in the nation in rushing at 260 yards a game. All in, Ohio State was fourth in offensive yards with 6,599 behind only the big shots Baylor, Oregon, and … Marshall, and ahead of TCU. The Buckeyes also sport a Top 20 defence. They finished 15th in yards against, allowing only 328 per game and were just as good against the pass, 17th in the nation allowing 188.2 yards per game. Ohio State was a little more susceptible against the run, finishing 33rd in the NCAA at a 139.8 yards per game clip. Ohio State needed their strong tv ratings for selection committee members to be “convinced” they were one of the best four teams in the nation this year. That they may not belong in the first ever College Football Playoff is exhibited in the betting line, the Buckeyes heading into the game as nine-point underdogs. Maybe there’s still some magic left in OSU’s impressive season, but it’s likely they’ll be very hard pressed to be still playing come New Year’s Day. ' ' '

Denver, CO (SportsNetwork. Reds Jerseys China .com) - Semyon Varlamov made 26 saves for his second shutout of the season to lead the Colorado Avalanche in a 5-0 win over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday. Varlamov had been out of action since Dec. 5 because of a nagging groin injury, yet recovered well enough to claim the 15th shutout of his career. We played a real solid game the whole 60 minutes, said Varlamov. It is much easier to play when the guys score lots of goals. Alex Tanguay and Ryan OReilly each had one goal and an assist for the Avalanche, who have won three in a row. Jarome Iginla, Zach Redmond and Erik Johnson also lit the lamp. Jake Allen gave up five goals on 31 shots over two periods for the Blues, who have dropped three straight. Martin Brodeur made 10 saves in the third. They beat us tonight, said Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk. They flat- out beat us. The Avs offense got going at the 15:02 mark of the first period. Johnsons shot from the left point beat traffic in front and got past Allen. Colorado took a 2-0 lead on a power-play goal at 18:45. OReillys pass through the crease found the stick of Redmond for his fourth of the season. Tanguay made it 3-0 at 5:49 of the middle stanza. Iginlas shot from the bottom of the right circle hit off Tanguays chest before crossing the goal line and the score was confirmed via video review. OReilly then lit the lamp on the power play at 16:47 when he went top shelf from the side of the net. Allen failed to stop Iginlas one-timer at the 17:27 mark, and Varlamov made the lead hold up with 12 stops in the third period. Germany and Norway also made it two wins in two games, while France failed to build on its upset victory over Canada as it lost 2-1 to Italy. Joakim Lindstrom scored the winning penalty for Sweden when he found the space between the pads of Alexander Salak. The Czechs took the lead after just eight seconds when Tomas Hertl beat Swedish goaltender Anders Nilsson, and were up 3-1 in the second period. Jiri Hudler scored on a power play and Ondrej Nemec also had a goal for the Czechs. Sweden tied it for 1-1 in the first through Oscar Moller, who scored again on a power play to reduce the Czech lead to 3-2 in the second. Lindstrom made it 3-3 on a power play in the third to force overtime. In another attacking display, Viktor Tikhonov and Alex Ovechkin put Russia 2-0 up less than 5 minutes into the first period. Juuso Hietanen pulled one back for Finland, but Nikolai Kulyomin scored a short-handed breakaway goal and Sergei Kalinin made it 4-1 in the second. "We had fast goals which gave us confidence," Russia coach Oleg Znarok said. Jere Karalahti scored the second goal for Finland. Finnish forward Pekka Jormakka left the ice on the stretcher after receiving a big hit from Vadim Shipachyov in the second period. Finland coach Erkka Westerlund said Jormakka was taken to a hospital for exams. Germany beat Latvia 3-2 after Thomas Oppenheimer scored the winner on a penallty in the third period. Norway held off Denmark 4-3 after rallying from an early 2-0 deficit. Jannik Hansen pulled one back for Denmark. Host Belarus earned its first win of the tournament by beating Kazakhstan 4-1. Kazakstan took the lead through Andrei Gavrilin, but Andrei Stepanov equalized and then set up Nikolai Stasenko for the winner in the second period in front of 15,000 roaring and jumping home fans. Sergei Kostitsy added a short-handed goal in the third and captain Alexei Kalyuzhny scored the fourth into an empty net. Russia has six points in Group B, Germany has five after two matches while Latvia and Belarus have three each and Kazakhstan has one. Finland "I have to be happy with my teams performance," Germany coach Pat Cortina said. "That was a step into the right direction after yesterday." Markus Gander gave Italy its first victory of the tournament by scoring the winner with 58 seconds remaining against France. "It was great to get our first win and get our confidence going," Italy coach Tom Pokel said. Norway has six points in Group A, followed by Sweden on five while the Czechs and Italy, a newcomer to the top division, have three points, France is on two and Denmark has zero. ' ' '

Better. Faster. Stronger. St. Louis was all that and more for most of a cold March night. They dealt the sliding Leafs their sixth straight loss – seven in the past eight games – and a very loud exit from the current playoff picture. Once on firm ground toward a second straight trip to the postseason, Toronto now sits 10th in the East, trailing Columbus and Detroit for the final two wild card spots with only eight games left to play. Skidding for nearly two weeks without even a single point they are in danger of fumbling away what seemed like a sure thing. Fear of that reality, it seems, is slowly infecting the group. "Well, certainly were afraid of letting it slip away," Joffrey Lupul conceded after a 5-3 loss to the Blues, the Leafs winless since Mar. 13. "The whole year we thought we were a playoff team and we still believe that now." At this moment, however, they are not. And what once seemed unthinkable as recently as two weeks prior when they stormed through California has now become a very real reality. The Leafs may not make the playoffs and they know it. And that fear of fumbling it away is driving the nerves of a flailing group. Head coach Randy Carlyle observed "tenseness" during the first half of Wednesdays game, one that saw St. Louis completely manhandle their sinking opponents, especially so in a dominant first frame. Big, hard, fast and strong, the best team in the West controlled possession of the puck almost without exception, peppering Jonathan Bernier with 23 shots while scoring the first two of four unanswered. "Its like we were frozen for 30 minutes of the hockey game," Carlyle said. "We didnt pick up the puck and skate with it at all. And thats showing signs of being nervous, tense, [lacking] confidence, not wanting to make a mistake which led to more offensive zone time [for the Blues]." Only when the score tilted at 4-1 did they start to push back and in a well-repeated theme, muster the kind of tenaciousness and enthusiasm required for winning at this time of year. Carl Gunnarsson and James van Riemsdyk scored to slice the deficit to one, but like those rallies in each of the previous five losses, the Leafs ultimately ran out of time. Desperation was just a little too late. "Right now it seems like when we get down then were playing with no fear," Lupul said. "Theres something to be said about being down and not having that fear anymore, but realistically weve got to play like that right from the start. Its more of a psychological thing than it is a physical thing for sure." Whether they can overcome that imposing mental hurdle and recover in time to make the playoffs remains an increasingly uncertain question. With stumbling starts, glaring defensive breakdowns, inconsistent offence and poor goaltending, theyve found ways to lose hockey games in rapid order and are feeling the pressure from it. Losing six straight for the first time since the infamous 18-wheeler collapse in 2012, the Leafs now they sit on the outside of the playoff picture with a daunting weekend set ahead against the Flyers and Red Wings. Their fate could be determined in a matter of days. "Theres reason for concern, but its not completely time to panic," Lupul said. "Were still right there. Weve got a game Friday, we play Detroit [on] Saturday, you win those two games and all of a sudden things look a lot different." Five Points: 1. Berniers Back Even Bernier – making his first start since Mar. 13 – couldnt rescue the Leafs from the Blues. And he tried. The 25-year-old was spectacular early on, turning away the first 20 St. Louis shots in a one-sided opening frame. He eventually ceded four goals on 48 shots. It was just his third loss in regulation when facing 40 shots or more (8-3-2). Bernier had missed the previous five games with a groin injury, rushing back to stabilize the Leafs wobbling crease. "Lot of work, but felt okay," he said afterward. Stretching constantly, in between whistles and during TV timeouts, Bernier was seemingly shy of 100 per cent, but surely felt the need to return with his teams chances of reaching the postseason flailing. Asked if he rushed back from the injury, Bernier said, "You always want to be back as soon as possible." "It was a little sore obviously, but I was just trying to get it loose a little bit in between whistles and timeouts." 2/3. Ready to Start? Scoring first didnt help the Leafs much on this night. They scored the first goal for the first time in eight games with Lupul tucking a Nazem Kadri pass beyond Ryan Miller on a power-play, but it was down-hill from there. Alrready owning possession for much of the period to that point, the Blues tied the proceedings at one when T. Melvin Mora Jersey. J. Oshie squeezed a rebound through the pads of Bernier. They went in front for good on the first of three from David Backes on a power-play, Dion Phaneuf failing to clear the puck adequately. St. Louis had 23 shots for the period, the most Toronto has allowed in any one period this season. "Thats a heck of a hockey team over there," van Riemsdyk said. "The way they play, lines 1-4, [defence] pairings 1-3, theres not much of a falloff. They kept coming. Thats no excuse for us. We have to find a way to get off to a better start." Strong and sturdy, the Blues cycled and cycled and cycled without giving the Leafs even a taste of the puck. "We couldnt break their cycle," Lupul said. "We couldnt get the puck." It was the kind of grinding performance Carlyle would like to see more from his team in Toronto. "They did a lot of things that were trying to convince our hockey club to do as far as hanging onto the puck a little bit more," he said. "We understand were not as big and strong and as physical as some of those teams that are able to do that, but thats more of the style this time of year – if you watch the games – thats whats being played." The Leafs are now 8-20-4 when they trail after the opening period. "Again we played 30 minutes of hockey tonight and showed that we can play, but wheres the 60 minutes?" Carlyle said. "We cannot afford to not start the way weve been starting. We have to have more of an effort or consistent, confident start than weve had in these games." 4. Phaneuf Phaneuf played fewer than 21 minutes and had what may have been his worst game of the season. The Toronto captain was on the ice and largely responsible for three of the first four St. Louis goals, having what Carlyle described as a "rough night". The 28-year-old made his first error late in the first, fumbling away an opportunity to clear the puck on a penalty kill, the Blues regrouping to score the first of three from Backes. Then early in the middle frame Phaneuf lost a puck battle with Alex Steen in the offensive zone. Lagging to get back defensively, he was beaten down the ice by Backes, the Blues captain eluding Bernier for the third St. Louis marker. About 10 minutes after that it was Steen muscling Phaneuf to the ice just outside Berniers crease, shaking free to whistle a backhand just under the bar for a 4-1 lead. Phaneuf was unavailable to media after the game. 5. Six-Game Skid Losing a bunch of close games, prior to Wednesday night, Lupul believed the Leafs had actually played better at points in their slide than in many victories this season. "Absolutely," said Lupul before the loss to St. Louis. "We track scoring chances – our team does – and were out-chancing teams every night. You can look at that and say were doing some things right, but its the time of the year that that doesnt really matter anymore, its all about wins. Youve got to translate that into getting more wins." The 30-year-old observed that the margin for winning and losing at this time of year is "really close". "Its been a topic of discussion in here," he said. "Were generating chances. Were not giving up near as many as we have, but were coming out on the wrong side of the game so that doesnt really matter. "And on the flip side when we were winning games and getting out-chanced we were saying the same thing in here, like come on, what are we doing? But now its the time of the year that it doesnt really matter how you get the job done it just needs to get done." Stats-Pack 1-7-0 – Leafs record in the past eight games. 23 – Shots allowed by the Leafs in the opening period Wednesday, the most of any period this season. 8 – Fights for David Clarkson this season. Pointless now in 23 of the past 25 games, Clarkson fought Brendan Morrow in the second period. 7-23 – Tyler Bozak in the faceoff circle against the Blues, hammered by the combination of Steen and Vladimir Sobotka. 1 – Six-game losing streak for the Leafs this season. 2 – Goals for James van Riemsdyk in the past 12 games, van Riemsdyk notching his 28th this season in defeat. Special Teams Capsule PP: 1-3Season: 21% (3rd) PK: 2-3Season: 78.5% (28th) Quote of the Night "Theres reason for concern, but its not completely time to panic." -Joffrey Lupul, following the Leafs sixth consecutive loss. Up Next The Leafs travel to Philadelphia on Friday to meet the Flyers before hosting the Red Wings at home on Saturday. ' ' '

last weeks shock defeat at Sale to crush Worcester

Сообщение wh3171 » 30 ноя 2019, 11:27

MONTREAL -- The struggling and injury-ravaged Montreal Alouettes will get yet another look at life after Anthony Calvillo. Fake Vans For Sale . Five days after the CFLs all-time passing leader suffered a concussion, Josh Neiswander will once again guide Montreals sputtering offence Thursday night when the Alouettes host the B.C. Lions at Percival Molson Stadium. Watch the game live on TSN tonight at 7pm et/4pm pt. The game can also be seen on TSN Mobile TV. Neiswander came on in relief in Saturdays 24-21 loss at Saskatchewan after Calvillo, who turns 41 on Friday, was knocked out of the game on the first play of the second quarter. Jim Popp, the Alouettes general manager and interim head coach, elected to go with Neiswander over rookie Tanner Marsh and 2006 Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith. The 26-year-old quarterback threw a pair of interceptions in the loss to Saskatchewan. He completed 12 of 30 passes for 147 yards. "I showed up initially two and half years ago thinking I was just going to be here for three days and it was more of a tryout and for them to get a look at me, and then I ended up staying and had to have all my stuff shipped up to me," said Neiswander, a 6-foot-2, 211-pound Texan from Angelo State. "Its certainly an opportunity, as far as being here in general, that Im grateful for and getting to play (Thursday) is something that Im really excited about and grateful for, also." Popp said that Marsh, a senior at Arkansas Tech last season, actually won the backup job in training camp, but he put substantial value in lessons imparted to Neiswander under coaches Marc Trestman, Scott Milanovich and Marcus Brady, as well as in being Calvillos understudy for the last few seasons. "Obviously Josh has more experience," Popp said. "Hes been here tutoring. This is his third year. Hes been under coach Trestman, Milanovich, Brady, now Mike Miller. Hes been here with Anthony the whole time and he knows the ins and outs. The players know him and hes very comfortable so its one of these situations where he got the nod this past week. "We were planning on playing both guys and we may this game. We still want to see Tanner play some, see how he does, but well start with Josh and depending on how the game goes, it may go like last game, Josh may get every rep but thats how were looking at it." The Lions arrive in Montreal on a two-game winning streak, also with four days off on a short week. Tim Brown returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown in B.C.s 26-22 win over Calgary on Saturday. The win moved the Lions into a tie with the Stampeders for second in the West at 5-2. Whether or not Calvillo will be on hand for the game is his own decision to make, according to Popp, who spoke to his star quarterback by phone Wednesday. "I can report that he feels good today and thats a great sign, and its up to him whether he comes tomorrow or not," Popp said. Marsh completed both of his pass attempts for 33 yards in a 38-13 loss to Toronto on Aug. 3. The 6-foot-4, 218-pound Texan wasnt surprised that Calvillo chose to return to the Alouettes bench for the second half of Saturdays game despite a team doctors suggestion that he stay out of the bright sun. "Thats A.C.," Marsh said. "Hes a team player. The team always comes first. He helped Josh tremendously." The loss to the West Division-leading Roughriders was Montreals second in a row since Popp and owner Robert Wettenhall fired head coach Dan Hawkins on Aug. 1. The Alouettes are third in the East at 2-5, with both wins coming under the brief and erratic reign of Hawkins, who was hired after two-time Grey Cup champion Trestman left to become head coach of the NFLs Chicago Bears. "I think the biggest word for us is finish," Popp said. "You know thats one thing I really stress to the team. I mean weve doing it little by little but I said youve got to have vision, execution, finish. We havent even been executing great. The vision, the practice, getting it prepared, thats one thing and youve got to do a great job of it, and Im talking about all of us, coaches and players. "Executing it is another plan, whether its players executing it or coaches calling it. And then finish is finishing the game, and we havent done that well." Montreal centre Luc Brodeur-Jourdain recognizes the Alouettes have to score touchdowns when they are within reach. "Obviously as a group, as an offence, we all have to step up, and not because its Neiswander or A.C.," Brodeur-Jourdain said. "As an offence we have to produce more in the red zone. We have to produce more offensively. "The change of quarterback, I know its a big challenge. Hes a young guy but Ive known him for a long time now because hes been part of this club and Ive seen that his work ethic has been awesome and hes been embracing what Anthony Calvillos been doing since he came here. Every morning I can see that Josh is here and hes watching the same stuff that Anthony is doing, and he was here this week doing all of the same routine." Anwar Stewart, Montreals all-time sacks leader, will be rotated in and out of the lineup in his return to the Alouettes after broadcasting the teams games earlier this season. Stewart, who was released by Montreal prior to the 2012 season, played four games for Calgary last season, including a four-sack effort against B.C. on Oct. 26. "Lets hope that repeats," Popp said. In addition to Calvillo, receiver Brandon London is also out with a concussion, another one of the eight Alouettes injured in Saturdays road loss. ANAHEIM, Calif. Air Max Outlet . - Mike Trout helped secure home field advantage for the American League in the World Series with his MVP performance in the All-Star Game. Now all the Angels have to do is get to the Fall Classic. Efren Navarro singled home a run with two outs in the 16th inning on Friday night, and the Los Angeles Angels came out of the All-Star break with a 3-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners — and a new closer. After the 10th inning, the Angels announced they had acquired two-time All-Star Huston Street from the San Diego Padres in a multiplayer deal that included five minor leaguers. The Angels also get pitcher Trevor Gott, and the Padres get pitchers R.J. Alvarez and Elliot Morris, along with infielders Taylor Lindsey and Jose Rondon. "Were it not for the fact that we had the ability to control Huston for a year and two months, it would have been far more difficult to justify giving up the type of package that we gave up to get him," Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto said. "We had to get a guy like Trevor Gott included in the deal to replace some of that lost value. "Hustons 30 years old, and arguably having his best season as a major leaguer," Dipoto added. "Hes been one of the more consistent closers in baseball over time and one of the highest percentage conversion guys in the league for a number of years. I feel really strong about his character and what he brings to the clubhouse. It really deepens the back end of our bullpen and it gives us the opportunity to make games shorter." One of the more enthusiastic Angels following the trade was Jered Weaver, who was charged with two runs and six hits in six-plus innings and struck out eight. "Obviously, its tremendous any time you can add a guy like that to your bullpen. Well take that any day of the week," Weaver said. Dominic Leone (2-2) gave up a one-out double to Trout in the 16th and intentionally walked Josh Hamilton with two out after a comebacker by Albert Pujols. Navarro batted for John McDonald and stroked the first pitch up the middle to bring home Trout. Hector Santiago (2-7), the ninth Angels pitcher, allowed one hit over 2 1-3 innings to get the victory. Mariners righty Tom Wilhelmsen allowed one hit over four innings, struck out four and threw 51 pitches in the longest of his 192 big league appearances. "It was a tough one. We all are doing everything we can to win," Wilhelmsen said. "Everybody is. I told him (manager Lloyd McClendon) had another inning in me. I cant remember the last time I pitched four innings. Its been a long time." The Angels have won six straight, and are a major league-best 27-9 since June 6. Robinson Cano, who was 4 for 6 with a walk, greeted Jason Grilli with a leadoff drive to right-centre in the 10th and got to second with a pop-up slide. But shortstop McDonald, who had entered the game as a pinch-runner for the injured Erick Aybar, kept his glove on Cano after getting Trouts relay from centre field. Scioscia requested a video review, and Cano was ruled out. Seattle righty Hisashi Iwakuma allowed two runs and six hits over seven innings and was lifted after just 77 pitches. The new no-collision rule played a huge part in the Angels scoring the games first run, after Hendrick led off their two-run fifth with a single and came all the way around on Freeses double to the wall in right-centre. Second baseman Cano got the relay from right fielder Chavez and got the ball to the plate in plenty of time to get Kendrick, who jarred the ball loose from Mike Zuninos glove on an attempted sweep tag. Freese continued to third on Zuninos error and scored on Hank Congers single through a drawn-in infield. NOTES: The worst-line-of-the-night award went to Mariners 3B Kyle Seager, who was 0 for 7 with three strikeouts. ... The Angels agreed to terms with LHP Sean Newcomb, their No.1 draft pick last month and the 15th overall selection. ... When Weaver threw a called third strike past James Jones in the fourth, he became the second Angels pitcher with at least 100 strikeouts in nine consecutive seasons. LHP Chuck Finley had a 12-year streak from 1988 through 1999. All-time strikeout king Nolan Ryan spent eight seasons with the Halos. Air Max 720 Scontate . PETERSBURG, Fla.
